nurses_relaxed.jpgHere at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust we are delighted to be working towards Nursing and Midwifery Excellence supported by NHS England and NHS Improvement.

We are one of only 14 Trusts nationally to be involved in the programme, which is sponsored by the Chief Nursing Officer for England, Ruth May.

The programme aims to promote excellence in practice and shared decision making across our nursing, midwifery and AHP teams and is the only accredited programme of its kind in the world.

Our aim is to work towards accreditation over the next three years by embedding a framework that helps us work towards excellence in six key standards. These are:

  • Professional Development
  • Leadership
  • Safety
  • Quality
  • Wellbeing
  • Governance

The programme aims to empower Nurses and Midwives, giving frontline staff a voice, creating a positive culture through shared decision making and strong leadership at all levels.

We will be developing shared decision making councils and have work streams looking at the 6 standards above. This is not only a fantastic opportunity for those who want to be more involved in day to day decision making, but will also support professional development.

Join us on our Pathway to Nursing and Midwifery Excellence. The Pathway to Excellence programme is delivered by the American Nurses Credentialing Centre (ANCC).
