Active Sunderland Big Walk

The Active Sunderland Big Walk event on the 30th June, is an ideal opportunity for those who wish to enjoy the beautiful wear valley while also fundraising for the Hospital Charity. There are three routes available, a 3 mile family friendly route, a 7 mile and an 11 mile route.

The 3 mile family friendly walk with scavenger hunt will provide an engaging opportunity to discover more about one of the city’s finest outdoor spaces. This route takes place completely within the boundaries of the Herrington Country Park so is perfect for families, beginners or those with mobility issues.

The other two routes (7 and 11 miles) take place in the beautiful river Wear Valley behind Penshaw Monument. This area of unspoilt countryside is home to a rich mosaic of habitats and wildlife and is a fantastic place to walk, with mile upon mile of footpaths through open countryside, ancient woodland and along the banks of the river Wear.

Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.

If you wish to take part in the walk and fundraise for the Hospital Charity please contact charity@chsft.nhs.uk

Charity Dragon Boat Race

Want to do something different? Interested in fundraising for one of the Hospital charitable funds? why not take part in The Great Northern Dragon Boat Challenge? Teams from across the area will compete first against the clock and then against each other to be crowned Dragon Boat champions. The event takes place on Sunday 11th August at the Hetton Lyons Country Park.

The Hospital Charities have reserved two boats in this year’s event, we need to recruit two teams of 20, 16 paddlers, 1 drummer and 3 reserves per boat. We are looking for volunteers from across the Trust to fill these boats, all we ask is that on top of the entrance fee (£20) you fundraise for one of the Hospital Charitable funds, you choose which one.

The hospital charities have over 300 funds across South Tyneside and Sunderland, it is almost guaranteed that your department or service will have at least one fund associated with it, you can fundraise for services other than your own. Charitable funds are used to buy equipment and provide facilities that the NHS wouldn’t normally fund, with the aim of improving the patient experience. Charitable funds have been used to refurbish waiting areas, buy training equipment, send staff on training events, provide new/upgraded equipment and much, much more.

If you are interested in taking part in this year’s event please contact Philip Bithell the Charitable Fundraiser on 0191 565 6256 ext 42946 or email him at charity@chsft.nhs.uk

At present we have filled all of our allocated spaces on this event. We are taking names for a reserve list, should anyone drop out, we may also be able to secure an additional boat should there be demand.
