The Active Sunderland Big Bike Ride

The Active Sunderland Big Bike ride on the 15th and 16th June is an ideal opportunity for anyone wishing to fundraise for the Hospital Charity. It offers three different distances to ride over with the shortest ideal for families and the longer routes providing a challenge for those who seek one.

15th June 2019

The event will take place in Herrington Country Park. At only 5 miles and completely within the boundaries of the park it is a perfect event for young people, families and beginner riders. Under 8s must cycle with an accompanying adult.

16th June 2019

The bike ride will see 100s of cyclists setting off on challenging 20 or 35 mile routes. Both routes offer a variety of cycling and the chance to see some of Sunderland’s finest scenery. Under 16s must cycle with an accompanying adult.

Active Sunderland Big Walk

The Active Sunderland Big Walk event on the 30th June, is an ideal opportunity for those who wish to enjoy the beautiful wear valley while also fundraising for the Hospital Charity. There are three routes available, a 3 mile family friendly route, a 7 mile and an 11 mile route.

The 3 mile family friendly walk with scavenger hunt will provide an engaging opportunity to discover more about one of the city’s finest outdoor spaces. This route takes place completely within the boundaries of the Herrington Country Park so is perfect for families, beginners or those with mobility issues.

The other two routes (7 and 11 miles) take place in the beautiful river Wear Valley behind Penshaw Monument. This area of unspoilt countryside is home to a rich mosaic of habitats and wildlife and is a fantastic place to walk, with mile upon mile of footpaths through open countryside, ancient woodland and along the banks of the river Wear.

Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.
