Building a brand new eye hospital in Sunderland has been part of our strategic plans for a long time. The current building is now over 75 years old and is at the end of its natural lifespan. Despite the outstanding care and treatment taking place inside, we know that the current building is no longer fit for purpose and does not provide the best experience for patients or staff.
We need to invest for the long-term in order to bring the hospital environment up to modern day NHS standards. Working with Sunderland City Council, we are now in the process of building a new modern facility. The new hospital will create an environment that reflects the world class NHS care taking place inside.
