South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust is committed to becoming a sustainable healthcare provider.  We are already a key partner in the City’s ambition to become carbon neutral by 2040.

Our plans for a new Eye Hospital will have minimal environmental impact.  This includes during the construction phase and once the new hospital opens.  There will also be a number of electric car charging points as well as cycle shed for staff that commute by bicycle.

As one of the most digitally advanced organisations in the NHS, we will also maximise the use of technology.  The new Eye Hospital is being designed to be paper-free at the point of care.  This will include the introduction of a new fully integrated electronic patient record which is pivotal in the safe and effective delivery of modern day NHS care.
