Our infectious diseases and microbiology team gives advice to staff and GPs on investigating and treating infections.
This includes:
- infection prevention and control - how we can stop infections from spreading
- antimicrobial stewardship - making sure antibiotics and other infection‑fighting medicines are used in the best and safest way
We help look after patients with:
Complex infections are illnesses that are hard to treat. They may affect many parts of the body or need special tests and medicines.
Unusual infections are infections that do not happen very often. They may be caused by rare germs, or they may not respond to normal treatments.
Tropical infections are infections usually found in warm, tropical countries. People might catch them when they travel to places like parts of Africa, Asia, or South America.
Examples include illnesses spread by mosquitoes or through unsafe water.
