Medical Photography is a service at Sunderland Royal Hospital that takes clinical photos for patients who are staying in hospital or coming for an appointment.
These photos help doctors and nurses look closely at parts of the body, such as the eyes, skin or wounds, before, during and after treatment.
The photos become part of your medical record. This helps your care team track changes over time and plan the best treatment for you. Sometimes the images may also be used for teaching, research or publications, but only if you give your permission.
Our photographers are trained to work in clinical areas and will explain what they are doing at every step. The photos are private and stored safely. We only take the pictures your doctor has asked for and the appointment is usually quick and simple.
If you have any questions or feel unsure, you can ask the photographer or your doctor at any time.
