In this service, we look after people who have pain, swelling or stiffness in their joints, muscles or bones. They often live in chronic pain. This can be due to problems with the immune system. This is where the body attacks its own tissues by mistake.

This is a common problem for lots of people. It causes pain and inflammation in a joint. It can affect you no matter how old you are. Children can get it too. There are two common types of arthritis. To find out more visit: Arthritis - NHS

This is when the bones get weak and fragile. They are more likely to break. It develops slowly over lots of years. It is often only discovered when someone has a sudden fall of break. To find out more visit: Osteoporosis - NHS.

This causes pain in the muscles and tissues that are there to hold your bones and joints together. It can cause pain all over the body. The pain can suddenly improve or get worse. To find out more visit: Fibromyalgia - NHS.

We run clinics to give injections for inflamed or swollen joints. This is a simple procedure to help ease chronic pain and stiffness in your joints. Our nurse specialists run these clinics along with our physios.

Where will my treatment take place?

Patients who are in hospital will usually stay on Ward B28. You may also stay in other parts of our hospitals too if you need surgery.

We see people with a range of conditions that can affect their joints, bones or muscles. We will see you in our outpatient clinics. This is where we will organise tests and scans and talk to you to help us understand what is wrong. We will also see you for follow up care and to monitor your condition if we think we need to.

Who will look after me?

A specialist team will look after you. This includes Consultants, Nurse Specialists and the wider medical, nursing and health care team.

Together, we will review your symptoms and agree a plan to look after you. As part of your ongoing care, we will monitor you with tests and scans. We may see you in person at a clinic or via a telephone or video appointment.
