Work has started today, Tuesday, May 3, on the construction of a new substation in the car park opposite the Staff Health Club at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

This means the footpath alongside the nearby car park will be closed for the next few months, including the zebra crossing next to the well.

Anyone wishing to visit hospital on foot from via Chester Road will need to use the footpath on the Chester Wing car park side.

To access this footpath from the front of the main hospital building, please use one of the zebra crossings outside of Chester Wing or Maternity.

Building work will take place for four months and during this time, traffic management and diversion signs will be on show and will bee reviewed as the work progresses.

City Hospitals Sunderland Independent Commercial Enterprises Limited (CHoICE) would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
