Please note that due to COVID 19 some of the work involved in merging the Trusts two charities has been delayed, we are currently still using two accounts one for each site.

At present we are still opertaing two bank accounts for the former charities, If you wish to make a donation to the Trust charity by cheque, first identify which of the old charity's the area you wish to suppot falls within;

  • if the service/ward is in South Tyneside or its a community service, please make cheques payable to "South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust Charitable Funds"
  • if the service/ward is in Sunderland or at the Durham Treatment Centre, please make cheques payable to "City Hospitals Sunderland Charity"

Please mark on the back of the cheque with the service or ward you wish the donation to go to, every ward/service has at least one charitable fund attached to it which helps to fund improvements to that service/ward. If you are wishing your donation to go into the general funds for either charity please mark the check "general funds" on the back, these funds are used to support activities across the whole hospital such as giving all patients on wards on Christmas morning a present.

If you can please also include a note outlining why you are giving a donation, if its in memory of a loved one, or in gratitude for care given to yourself or someone else. We will pass this information on to the relevant service/ward.

If you are unsure which charity or service/ ward you wish to donate to, please contact us at and we will try to help.

Please send all cheques to;

Charitable fundraiser, Corporate Affairs, South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, Trust HQ, Sunderland Royal Hospital, Kayll Road, Sunderland, SR4 7TP
