Volunteer Fundraisers are essential to the hospital charity, without them running, swimming, dancing, baking among other things, the charities would struggle to have the impact they do on the lives of patients in South Tyneside and Sunderland.  This page outlines how to become a volunteer fundraiser and what you can do as a fundraiser.

What is a Volunteer Fundraiser?

A volunteer fundraiser is anyone who carries out fundraising activity on behalf of our charity. So, whether you're a colleague, current or former patient, family member or just a member of the public interested in helping to improve the hospital experience, read on to find out more!

What can I do to fundraise for STS Charity?

There are hundreds of ways that you can fundraise for us and we will try to help you deliver whatever activity you want to do to fundraise for our hospital charities. Whether that's walking Hadrian’s Wall, skateboarding from the mouth of the Tyne to the mouth of the Wear or sitting in a bath of beans for a day. We will draw the line at anything that runs against our values and if it’s illegal then needless to say we definitely won’t support it.

We have fundraisers who do regular bag packs at local shops, others who have organised cabaret nights and even have a volunteer who takes part in distance runs with a wheelie bin attached to his back!

If you are stuck for ideas the charity regularly organise fundraising activities that you can join in with. We also offer opportunities on events organised by others where we have negotiated places or have a partnership with the organisers such as the Lambton Run. For more information regarding these visit our events page.

How much support will I get?

We will help you as much as we can and have produced a guide to help you with your fundraising journey. This is available to download at the bottom of the page. We can also provide  template sponsorship forms and will always do our best to answer any questions you have and get you heading in the right direction.

Do I have to raise a set amount?

No! We are happy to accept all donations large and small and put every penny to good use.

Can I fundraise online?

Yes!

We have a Just Giving page that you can link your fundraising page to if you are fundraising for a fund linked to the Sunderland Royal Hospital or Sunderland Eye Infirmary and a Virgin Money Giving page you can link to if you are fundraising for a fund linked to the South Tyneside District Hospital (click on the highlighted text to link to the pages).

A guide to setting up your own JustGiving fundraising page can be found below.

Do I have to register to be a Volunteer Fundraiser?

Yes!

We require all volunteer fundraisers to complete a fundraising agreement. Some fundraising is affected by local authority regulations and national legislation. The fundraising agreement helps us advise and support you properly and also lets others know that your fundraising is legitimate.

Please contact us to get an agreement form to complete, it is a very short and straight forward form to complete.

Click on this link to open a guide to creating your own JustGiving fundraising page. Please make sure you select that you are fundraising for a charity and put "City Hospitals Sunderland Charity" as the charity you are fundraising for. If you want the funds to go to a specific ward or department state this in your story/description.
