Patient Transport Service (NEAS)
The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) provides pre-planned, non emergency patient transport. This service is for patients who have a medical condition that prevents them from travelling to and from hospital by other means. Or, for patients who need the skills of an ambulance care assistant during their journey.
To find out if you are eligible for patient transport, please contact Patient Transport Services on 0191 2151515. They will ask you some questions and assess your needs.Your G.P or hospital staff can also arrange patient transport for you.
To cancel a patient transport booking please call 0191 2151515, Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm. Or, if your booking is for the next working day 0300 111 0247.

Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme
If you're referred to hospital for treatment or a diagnostic test, you may be able to get help with your travel costs under the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme. The NHS website explains who is eligible.
