The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) provides pre-planned, non emergency patient transport. This service is for patients who have a medical condition that prevents them from travelling to and from hospital by other means. Or, for patients who need the skills of an ambulance care assistant during their journey.
To find out if you are eligible for patient transport, please contact Patient Transport Services on 0191 2151515. Your G.P or hospital staff can also arrange patient transport for you.
If you are not eligible for patient transport, please contact the Patient Advice Liaison Service. Freephone 0800 0320202. They may be able to provide details of other transport providers in your area.
To cancel a patient transport booking please call 03001110247.
If you're referred to hospital for treatment or a diagnostic test, you may be able to get help with your travel costs under the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme. The NHS website explains who is eligible.
