SUN_Facebook_NHS70.jpgTo mark the 70th birthday of the NHS, City Hospitals Sunderland will be celebrating throughout the day with patients and staff across Sunderland Royal Hospital, Sunderland Eye Infirmary, the Children’s Centre on Durham Road and its brand new Durham Treatment Centre.

There will be a number of activities and events taking place, including a special CHoICE moment where patients who are in hospital and members of ward staff will receive a special NHS70 afternoon tea. In addition, all babies in the maternity unit will be presented with a special gift commissioned by the Trust.

Amongst the cakes and balloons, staff will be taking NHS70 selfies and sharing what they love about working in the NHS. There will also be an exhibition in the main concourse of NHS memories and memorabilia, including a timeline outlining the creation of the NHS to present day, photos taken over the years and a section for patients, visitors and staff to leave comments and messages of thanks.

In the afternoon there will be an Innovation Showcase which demonstrates how research and innovation has played a part in improving patient experience over the last 70 years. Staff and patient groups have been invited to attend to talk about innovation in patient care and to see how their own ideas can be supported and developed.
