A night of top comedy is coming to Sunderland this October, all in aid of a brighter future for eye care in the region.
STS Charity, the dedicated charity of South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, is proud to present ‘Ha’way the Laughs!’.
Taking place at The Fire Station in Sunderland City Centre on Tuesday 21st October at 7pm, the evening promises a stellar line-up of comedy favourites.
All in support of the STS Charity Vision Appeal which is raising vital funds to support enhanced and cutting-edge equipment for the new Eye Hospital currently under construction in Sunderland.
Headlining the evening is award-winning stand-up comedian and writer Scott Bennett, known for his appearances on Live at the Apollo and The Royal Variety Performance. With a sharp wit and warm delivery, Scott has toured with comedy legends including Micky Flanagan, Jason Manford and Sarah Millican.
Opening the show is Chris Cantrill, one half of cult comedy duo The Delightful Sausage. A three-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee, Chris is known for his surreal humour and sharp writing, with credits including Harry Hill’s Club Night, Channel 4 and Dave. Having previously performed at The Fire Station, his return is eagerly anticipated.
Local rising star Kelly Rickard adds her brutally honest and hilarious voice to the mix, fresh from appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe and Women in Comedy Festival.
Hosting the night is Matt Reed, a local seasoned compere with a reputation for quick-fire charm and festival appearances alongside the likes of Tim Minchin and Frankie Boyle.
Catherine Scott-Jones, STS Charity Fundraising Manager, shared: “This is our first comedy night as a charity and we’re thrilled to bring such an incredible line-up to Sunderland.
This is a brilliant opportunity to enjoy a night out while supporting a cause that will make a real difference to patients across our region. When it comes to eye care, access to the best possible equipment and treatment isn’t just important, it is life changing.”
Although the hospital build is fully funded, the charity is calling on the community to help take things further. Supporting enhancements that go beyond what’s typically available through NHS sources.
From flexible 3D eye scanning machines to motorised examination chairs and ocular motility analysers, these additions are designed not just to improve the quality of treatment, but to elevate every patient’s experience of care.
All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to STS Charity and the Vision Appeal.
