Our Renal Unit will play a part in marking this World Kidney Day this Thursday, March 9.

Landmarks across Sunderland will be lit up as part of the awareness campaign.

Locations including Penshaw Monument and Cliff Park Lighthouse will glow in red, yellow and blue in recognition of the day.

It follows a call to Sunderland City Council by the unit as the team at Sunderland Royal Hospital put together plans.

The team will be supporting the day by offering patients cakes while they visit the department for care.

Colleagues will also be on hand in the main entrance to the hospital off Kayll Road as they host an information stall.

They will talk to visitors, patients and staff about home dialysis, living kidney donation and altruistic donation.

The session will run from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

This year’s theme is 'Kidney Health for All - Preparing for the unexpected, supporting the vulnerable’.
