Our Children’s Day Unit at South Tyneside District Hospital is open for children, young people and their families each Monday (excluding bank holidays) Wednesday and Thursday between 08:00am and 17:30pm
The unit is nurse led and provides a specialist service for children and young people up to the age of 16, who have been referred to us by a Paediatrician their GP or other health professional. Children and Young People can undergo various investigation in a safe child friendly environment without the need for an overnight stay.
The type of investigations and procedure offered include:
- Allergy investigations and procedures
- Renal (Kidney) investigations and procedures
- Immunisations
- Blood Tests
- Rapid access appointments
Nursery Nurse Staff support the trained children’s nurses in providing your child’s care and help to limit the distress your child may feel. They are specially trained to help children and young people with any anxieties they may have about their hospital appointment and care. They can also help to support you and help to distract your child should they need an invasive procedure.
