The team oversee the care of all patients both Trauma and Elective, with input from support staff. Trauma patients may include those who have sustained lower limb fractures, upper limb fractures and many other musculoskeletal and soft tissue conditions. Elective patients may include those undergoing procedures such as knee replacement, hip replacement and shoulder replacements.
Nursing staff may refer patients to occupational therapy during their stay; an occupational therapist will visit the ward to gather information about how patients managed daily activities before they came into hospital and to ask them about any concerns before they return home.
Therapists work very closely with other professionals to ensure patients are safely discharged from hospital with the correct levels of care. There are various services within occupational health such as: Acute Stroke and Rehabiliation, Care of the Older Person, Interface Team, Medical and Surgical, Rheumatology and Trauma and Orthopaedic Occupational Therapy.
Our team will consider all of our patients' needs - physical, psychological, social and environmental. Each therapist is professionally trained and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
