The Eye Clinic Liaison Service serves South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Trust and is provided in partnership with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).

Who are we and what do we offer?

Diagnosis of an eye condition can be emotionally and physically challenging.

The team would like to ensure that no one is without advice and support. The Eye Clinic Liaison Service offers emotional and practical support to patients of all ages, including their families and carers.

The Eye Clinic Liaison Officers (ECLOs) are employed by the RNIB. They are on hand to help bridge the gap between health and services in the community.

The ECLOs are Andrea Hird, Mary Hall and Kate Jakubovics.

The ECLO team aims to provide tailored support to meet your needs, in the following areas:

  • Advice on appropriate aids for day to day living support
  • Emotional support
  • Employment advice
  • Housing issues
  • Access to benefits and concessions
  • Benefits of certification and registration
  • Local and national support services

Our team of ECLOs also support visually impaired children, young people and their families so they can access services in education, independent living and the world of work.
