At South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, we’re proud to shine a light on the incredible work of our Cancer Personalised Care Team and the patients helping to shape it.
Each year, around 30% of our patients are diagnosed with stage 4 incurable cancer. We know how overwhelming those first days and weeks can be, which is why we’re working together to change the experience.
Through our Living with Cancer working group, patients living with “treatable but not curable” cancer are co-designing new resources alongside our specialist teams.
Together, we are creating a series of honest, supportive videos and written guides to help patients who are newly diagnosed with "treatable but not curable cancer". Filmed over tea and conversation, these videos share real experiences, practical advice, and messages of hope from those who understand.
By working directly with patients, our specialist teams can ensure every piece of information is clear, relevant, and compassionate, shaped by lived experience as well as clinical expertise.
This collaboration means our resources are truly by patients, for patients, improving patient experience from the very first appointment and providing support at every stage of their cancer journey.
