Where to find our Discharge Lounges
South Tyneside Discharge Lounge is in Deans Wing. It is opposite Outpatients/Accident and Emergency. 

Sunderland Discharge Lounge is at Entrance 7 of Sunderland Royal Hospital. 

Why we have a Discharge Lounge
It give you a place to relax while you wait to leave hospital. You can wait here for medications, transport, or family members to take you home.

The lounge also helps us to free up hospital beds for patients who need them.

What you need for the Discharge Lounge
Please wear appropriate clothing. We ask that family members or friends provide you with this before your day of discharge.

How long you will be in the Discharge Lounge
The time you are on the Discharge Lounge will vary. We will do everything possible to make sure you can go home as soon as possible.

Facilities provided
You will be offered a meal. Refreshments and snacks are available throughout the day.  Tea and Coffee are offered regularly. If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know.

If you need help with meals or drinks, please let us know. We can do this and will always respect your privacy and dignity.

Leaving the Discharge Lounge
Both Discharge Lounges have a private transport crew. If you need to use the transport, our staff will arrange this for you.

If you are being picked up by someone, they can park outside the door for free for 20 minutes. This makes it quicker and easier for them to collect you.

If you would prefer to call a taxi, you are welcome to do this from the Discharge Lounge.
