The Intermediate Care Assessment and Rehabilitation (ICAR) unit is in Houghton, Sunderland. It is a 24 bed nursing rehabilitation unit with all single, en-suite rooms.
Why you might need to go to ICAR
We can help support your recovery. We also help you maintain your independence. By coming to the unit you are also able to leave hospital or avoid hospital altogether.
Support provided
We offer medical, nursing and therapy assessments. We will monitor your health and support your recovery.
We provide short-term therapy and confidence building, also known as rehabilitation. We work with you to help you achieve your goals.
Who we can help
We can help if you:
- Are well enough to leave hospital but need a little extra support
- Need support that could help you avoid hospital admission
How long you will be with us
This time will vary for every person. Our team will work with you, those close to you, and any appropriate services, to help you leave as quickly and safely as possible.
Visiting
Visiting times are:
- 2- 4.30pm
- 5.30–7.30pm
There is free parking on site.
