What is Cardiac rehabilitation?

Cardiac rehab is a programme of exercise and education to help you get back on your feet again after a heart attack, heart surgery or following a diagnosis such as heart failure.

Who is cardiac rehabilitation for?

  • If you have had a heart attack.
  • If you have had a coronary angioplasty.
  • If you have had coronary bypass surgery or another type of surgery.
  • If you have had an implantable cardiovascular defibrillator (ICD) fitted.
  • If you have stable heart failure.

How can cardiac rehab help me?

Cardiac rehab is a vital part of your recovery and it’s just as important as taking your medication.

Cardiac rehab can help you with: 

  • Recovering from your surgery or heart attack
  • Reducing the risk of further heart problems
  • Understanding your heart condition
  • Making changes to your lifestyle that will help improve your heart health such as eating healthily, stopping smoking and being more active.
