As part of the Path to Excellence work, 24 hour cover and inpatient services for children and young people are offered from the Sunderland Royal Hospital site with eight until late urgent care service from South Tyneside District Hospital site.
The Children’s wards provide hospital care for all babies, children and young people from a few days old up to the age of 16 (or older for children with special circumstances) who are unwell or injured. Children and Young people are cared for by our team of doctors, nurses, health care assistants and hospital play specialists.
There are 3 wards: F64 and F65 provide care for unwell children and young people and F63 provides medical and surgical day case care.
We’ve made sure that everything we do helps to make a hospital stay as comfortable as possible for our young patients. We have a play room and activities including a teen area on the ward to create a relaxed, calm environment for children, young people and their families.
