What we do

The South Tyneside Children and Young People’s Diabetes team is committed to providing high quality care to children and young people with Type 1 Diabetes. We follow regional and national guidelines. Our purpose is to ensure a co-ordinated, child-centred approach to the diagnosis, treatment and continuing management for these children, young people and their families. The ultimate aim is to empower them to manage their diabetes with confidence in all situations, to support and enable them to achieve their maximum potential in all aspects of life.

We utilise all endorsed technology and submit data to the National Paediatric Diabetes Audit annually and act upon these reports to continually develop our service further.  We are very proud of our achievements as one of the top performing units in the country.
