Our Occupational Therapists provide assessment and intervention to enable our patients to regain and maximise their independence and facilitate a safe and timely discharge from hospital.

What to expect

The team will visit you on your ward to gather information about your social circumstances and to identify how you  managed before you came into hospital. They will consider everyday tasks such as getting on and off the bed, in and out the bath and tasks in the kitchen.

If you are struggling with these tasks, the Occupational Therapist will show you equipment that may help you after you are discharged home.  Further recommendations may be made, such as practices of tasks to improve mobility and transfers or how people will manage at home in the kitchen after they are discharged. For some patients our Occupational Therapists may visit your home to look at your home environment.

The team can also make recommendations for carer support, or further rehabilitation. This may be provided in your home from community teams or in a local bed based rehabilitation facility.
