The Trust's Trauma and Orthopaedic department provide a range of services, including the fracture clinic and plaster services, as well treating patients with soft tissue injuries.
Our hospitals offer a range of emergency and elective orthopaedics services including:
- Trauma service for patients suffering a traumatic orthopaedic injury. This service is consultant delivered and takes the form of responding to Accident and Emergency, outpatient clinics, inpatient and day case surgery.
- Elective orthopaedic service which involve outpatient consultations for a range of sub specialties including; hip and knee, foot and ankle, shoulder and elbow and hand. Elective surgery is offered on both an inpatient or day case basis, as appropriate.
- Our Orthopaedic Outreach Team led by a trained orthopaedic nursing sister. This team offer an outreach service to the patient in their own home for both trauma and elective patients.

Ward 9 is the inpatient orthopaedic ward and is situated on level 3 of the main hospital block.
Orthopaedic outpatient clinics including trauma clinics are delivered from the main outpatient department of the main hospital building
All patients attending for planned surgery should attend the Surgical Centre Reception on level 1 of the main hospital building.
Sunderland Royal Hospital
The Orthopaedic and Fracture Clinic is situated at Sunderland Royal Hospital in Entrance 3 next to the Adult Emergency Department.
Inpatient care is provided from Wards D42, D43 and D48.
