We are proud of the fact that a number of our colleagues also serve as reserves across all of our Armed Forces.

Our Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development Kath Griffin is our Armed Forces Champion.

Our policies reflect our support by our reservist colleagues.

They include benefits such as paid leave to undertake annual training exercises and tours.

Our Trust is a member of Step Into Health. More information is available by clicking here

Our Veterans and Reservists

Alan – Security Staff

“My background in the armed forces helps me every day in my role working in security.”

Veterans page Alan.JPG

Alan has worked in the NHS for 21 years as Security.

He started his working life in the Light Infantry.

He served in the Army for 8 years before working in the oil industry.

Alan found out about career opportunities at the hospital from an ex-army colleague who was working with us.

He has now been with our Trust for 21 years.

Lee - Education Centre Manager

"The transferable skills from the Army can bring a lot to the NHS."

veterans page Lee.JPG

Lee spent 22 years within the Army, beginning with the Light Infantry which later became The Rifles.

He completed several tours of Afghanistan, Kenya, Kosovo, Sierra Leone and Northern Ireland.

Lee joined the NHS in 2021 firstly working with CHoICE as a driver.

More recently, he has taken up the role of Education Centre Manager.

Lee found out about opportunities within the organisation from family members who worked for the Trust.

Alexander - Clinical Research Fellow

"My NHS and military roles complement each other perfectly. Each role has different challenges and rewards, and each helps me be better at the other."

veterans page Alexander.JPG

Alexander is a surgical registrar.

He joined the Army Reserve shortly after he joined the Trust in November 2020.

This means he was well-established in his civilian NHS career long before deciding to join the Army Reserve.

His main role in the Army is as a surgeon, but almost all aspects of his job as an NHS doctor are relevant to his work in the Army Reserve.

He found out about and was inspired to join the Army Reserve by several surgical colleagues. They were already serving in the Regular or Reserve Army.

He hopes to serve in both the NHS and the Army throughout his whole medical career.

Listen to Alexander's experiences as a member of our Trust and as a reservist here, in an episode of Our People Podcast.
