We are always learning

“The only way to learn is to live.”

The NHS never stands still. We must all keep learning, discovering and improving how we do things. There are lots of opportunities to do this at STSFT. We want to support staff, through formal and informal training, so that every member of #TeamSTSFT can reach their full potential. How are we doing this?

  • Our new appraisal process puts more emphasis on your wellbeing and aspirations, rather than just performance.
  • We have launched an ‘Engaged Leaders’ training programme for managers and those who aspire to lead so that we develop people who inspire others, rather than just manage.
  • We support colleagues to develop their careers from Apprenticeship Programmes up to Master’s Degrees in a wide range of subject areas.
  • We have launched a Careers Pathway portal, which you can find on the intranet, to support our Nurses, Midwifes and Allied Health Professionals to plan the next steps in their career.
  • We offer a range of in-house training programmes created around you that are supported by our own Organisational Development Team.
  • We’re driven by research and innovation. We invest in it, we encourage it and we want all colleagues to play a part in it.
  • We actively listen to what our patients are telling us and have launched a new patient experience tool to help us learn and act on feedback quickly.
  • We exchange our skills and knowledge across the local health and care system working with our partners in South Tyneside and Sunderland.
  • We are improving care for older people through The Older People’s Improvement Collaborative (TOPIC).
