Quiet space created for carers and their loved ones as hospital answers calls for change
A quiet room away from an A&E waiting area has been created after a hospital took on board feedback from carers of women with dementia. The changes have led to Chris Cairns, a Nurse Consultant for Older Persons with South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, being presented an award for the work he has put in to create the space.
Walk of Light to bring together families to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week
Loved ones will be invited to gather to reflect and remember at a walk during Baby Loss Awareness Week. The event will be hosted by the Forever Cherished Maternity Bereavement Service. It is led by South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust to support those who have faced baby loss. Its Walk of Light will be held as part of the week, which runs from Wednesday, October 9, to Tuesday, October 15.

The NHS is urging everyone at high risk from flu to "Be wise, immunise" by getting their flu vaccine this winter. Every year, around 17 million people in England get a free flu vaccine. Last year, more than one million people in the North East and North Cumbria were vaccinated.
