The Renal Department looks after patients in the region with kidney disorders and other related conditions. Whether you have been referred to our service recently, have chronic kidney disease (CKD), kidney failure requiring dialysis therapy or a kidney transplant, our specialist team are dedicated to supporting patients at every stage of your journey and provide excellent care.

Our unit consists of an outpatient renal department at Sunderland Royal as well as an inpatient ward (B28). We have 3 dialysis units across Sunderland, Durham and South Tyneside.
There is an on-call consultant available for urgent renal advice via the STSFT switchboard.

Dialysis Administrators

- Dialysis away from base - Help and advice for dialysis patients who would like to take a holiday in the UK or Abroad.

- Free car parking permit for dialysis patients on site, form available here
- Travel Expenses, patients who use their own transport may also be eligible to claim travel expenses.
- Home dialysis patients Electricity reimbursement costs.

- PatientsKnowBest (PKB) - Online access to test results available for Renal Patients to sign up and view their results from home. Please ask one of the dialysis adminstrators to sign you up and give you access. More about the site can be found here
Renal Reception Staff
Available Monday to Friday 08:30 to 16:30 or Telephone 0191 5656256 ext. 47309 for the following:
- Appointment enquiries, to cancel/change an appointment held in the Renal Unit, contact above.
- Changes to address, telephone number, GP or next of kin, please notify above to enable us to update our records.
